We are in full swing preparing for the concerts: Spring concert (May 12), the Dorney Park trip (May 6), and the Jazz festival at Mendham High School (May 18). The T-shirts are in, thus we are close!
Working with middle school students is always exciting. Everyday is different and full of wonderful (yes, and sometimes frustrating) events. They never stop surprising me with their dedication, passion, and humor.
Let me tell you a story from today...
A 6th grade student that I call "Sliver" always enters the band room with a HUGE smile. A smile that makes the room brighter and alive. All the students present will react to the happiness radiated and join in the "high five" as Silver passes through the room.
Today, Silver had a "Level" test, and my week was made complete. Her sense of humor came through the music and her dedication to performing at a high level was inspirational to me. Her essay on "How Music has Changed her Life" was moving and funny at the same time. But, the highlight was when she played her rhythms for me. The student who could not tap. clap. and count eight notes in September was performing perfectly with style, grace, and soul!!!
Thank you "Silver" for adding so much joy to all of our lives at BRMS.
I look forward to seeing you all on May 12th!
