Part of my research has been reading a few books and two stand out. "The Anxious Generation" by Jonathan Haidt and "Bad Therapy" by Abigail Shrier. Both very interesting! Below is a good video summarizing some of my concerns since 2011. Enjoy Thank you for the great gift to see Bruce Springsteen in concert! On Saturday, Anne and I saw the most amazing concert due to your thoughtfulness, generosity, and coolness!
Bruce & the E Street Band performed at such a high level! It was a REAL rock concert that was not full of explosions, fancy dancing, lighting effects, and fluff. Nope, just ROCK AND ROLL! There was also some very moving moments when he payed tributes to old band members and the past. A truly memorable concert that I will never forget! Thank you again for such a wonderful gift of music, life, and love. Peace and see you soon! Dr. Piascik Everyone should watch this!Things are always challenging, and they should be. I see some students, adults, and parents give up too fast. They think that life is easy and they "deserve" to not work for great results. This video nicely explains that we all have to change our attitudes and "Handle the HARD better!" Today BRMS Music had a great day! The day started with an awesome breakfast and presentation that I prepared for the students. The presentation introduced musical ideas, ecosystems, and thought processes that are included in the concert that we were going to attend today. With this knowledge, the students could listen more carefully and understand the intentions and beauty of the music. We then traveled to NYC to see the New York Philharmonic in concert at the new Geffen Hall in Lincoln Center! What an experience for the student to hear such a high quality ensemble play music from the 1600's to today! Thank you to all the parents, administration, and students for such a moving and inspirational day! The BRMS Symphonic Band received a "Superior" Rating at the Festivals of Music last Friday. I am so proud of their musicianship and leadership! We had to leave early due to thunderstorms and a tornado watch, but we had a great time performing on a real stage and riding some of the attractions at Dorney Park. I overheard the best summary of our group from the bus driver. He was on his phone while I was organizing the tickets and I heard him tell his wife about us in a very bragging tone: - Professional - Really awesome people - Polite - Organized - He was very impressed with everything about us! He even mentioned that our awesome principal, Mr. White, was there to support us. We were not able to receive the "Espirit De Corps" since we left early, but I am convinced that we deserved the honor and I am so proud of everyone! Thank you for making my days full of great music, laughter, and professionalism. This is going to be a great year! This is going to be a great year! We are now 3 weeks into the 2021-2022 school year and I can feel the excitement in the air. Band rehearsals and lessons are in full swing, students are laughing, and the band room is full of music and joy. What can be better after such a tough couple of years. I just want to let you know how awesome it is to be back and hearing the dreams, goals, and music from each student. They inspire me! Peace and see you all very soon! Dr. Piascik If you missed my "Back to School" Video...We are very excited to announce that we are starting to organize, practice, record, and produce the "Chester Music Spring Spectacular!" This will include 3 virtual band performances, 1 or 2 Encore Jazz performances, and many special segments written, directed, and produced by our own students from BRMS, BRAGG, and the High School. Dr. Piascik is very excited to be part of an exciting evening of music on May 26th as we watch the show at home with lots of food and joy. Stay tuned... I would like to share this article, which is one of many, about how the "serious" study of music improves your brain activity and life. Along with developing "Power Skills," the benefits of playing an instrument are huge. Congrats to BRMS for encouraging our children to study music and to practice with purpose. The beat goes on... Journal of Neuroscience Article on Music and the Brain Dr. Piascik,
It’s crazy how the time has flown by! We miss you a lot and hope you are doing well in these uncertain times. Looking back, we remember all of the great times in your class and how excited we were to see you at band rehearsal. Your motivational and positive conversations with us always opened a door to new inspirational ideas and outlooks on life. You’re so passionate about music and are always looking to find the beauty in everything and everyone. We’re so glad to have been your students! In band, we would always be learning new things and you would push us to be the best musicians and people that we could be. Even at our worst moments, you would never give up on us. Something else that stood out to us were all of the different activities you would host and allow us to participate in. Dorney Park was amazing, and while we had to get up early, we always loved going to honors woodwinds in the morning! The Inspiration Cafe was exciting, and we loved listening to the different musicians talk about their personal experiences. Your funny stories were always relatable and carried a deeper meaning. Thank you so much for being an incredible teacher and leaving a long-lasting impression on us. We’ll always remember to stay creative and look in-between the notes! Peace & Rhythm ~ K&K I am very worried about many issues today with our children. This video states one of them...big time.
We need to do a better job!
