Please watch to the end, the last trick is absolutely amazing.
Never give up on your passions - and please practice...
I came across this TED video of a Yo-Yo master. Yes, a Yo-Yo master. He talks of his passion for Yo-Yo and what he did to promote the understanding of the Yo-Yo to the world. Practice, Practice, Practice!
Please watch to the end, the last trick is absolutely amazing. Never give up on your passions - and please practice... The year is off and running. I am just starting to feel like things are settling down. SmartMusic has started, the students have handed in some grades, the band room is full of sound again. I am so excited! We also did our first recording of the year on the Smartboard. Let's just say, it has been a great summer for everyone and the video proves that we have all relaxed and forgotten some things. No fear, it is only September. The new 6th grade is awesome! They are full of energy and passion. The 7/8th grade has the potential to also be my best band ever! I have such high hopes for this year! Tonight is "Back to School" night. I look forward to meeting many parents and explaining why BRMS is the place to be! Musically rocking! Please stop by tonight or check out my "Open House" video on my eboard. Here is a quote for the day... Music cleanses the understanding; inspires it, and lifts it into a realm
which it would not reach if it were left to itself. ~Henry Ward Beecher Welcome! I can not tell you how excited I am for this year. Lots of new things and great music. Please make sure you visit my eboard for more information about "SmartMusic" and the Band Handbook. Here is a summary of the major changes for this year: 1. I want to make practicing more fun. Thus, we will start using SmartMusic for the practice log and tests. After you purchase the subscription, you can do the work on any computer at your own pace. There is lots of music for you to play and I hope this makes practicing a blast! 2. Lessons will now only be pulled out of "Related Art" classes. Your lesson will be on the same rotation day and rotate bewtween your 2 related art classes. I hope this eases the stress that people have expressed to me over the years. 3. Grading has changed: 60% attendance at lessons and rehearsals, 10% theory, 5% Levels, 5% marking period tests and 20% SmartMusic work. I look forward to band starting next week. Enjoy your first week of classes and please stop by the band room and say hello. Today started the year for our schools. It was a wonderful day!! I would like to say how happy I was to see all of the students and parents this afternoon. The energy is so wonderful. You all make me so happy!! Our presentation was called "Teach like a Pirate." We read this book last year. It was so cool to see a great teacher in action as he told us his ideas about teaching. My take-aways... Teach with Passion! Teach the Real World! Take Risks! Have Fun! Think outside the Box! Be CRAZY!! Sounds like fun, right? |
